Internships and The Brotherhood

March 26th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Put in my summer internship application at ArtSpace today. If you live in the constitution state or are passing through I suggest you go check it out, probably the only contemporary gallery in New Haven county I am always excited about. They always have great stuff to check out, especially colorful things… I am a sucker for color. A few years back they had this cute exhibition (I think it might have been put on by the Creative Arts Workshop?) that was all these super old sports balls, some in the old woven gym bags and some just straight up mounted to the wall. I was probably a sophomore or junior in high school and I loved it, it totally reminded me of playing dodgeball in gym class.

As for recent projects (those that are NOT for school), I’m undertaking the task of designing the insert for Connecticut Brotherhood’s This is the Underground: CTHC 2008 . Real excited about this. It’s a compiliation CD that Wes is distributing for free at Black & Blue Bowl (Brooklyn, NY), As One Fest (Waterbury, CT), Suicide Fest (San Antonio, TX), Significant Fest (Clearwater, FL), and This Is Hardcore (Philadelphia, PA). Some of the bands featured; my friends, Night Life, my boyfriend’s band, The Distance, and Connecticut’s next-biggest heartthrobs; The Lows. The layout should be done by tomorrow night (or as soon as I get all the information) and I’ll post it here. Little clues: no pile-on pictures, light, simple graphics.

Another, albeit far off, but exciting project is a silkscreened poster for XO Skeleton’s first Connecticut show of 2008, their (and Benn Grimm’s!) CD release May 9th at Bobby Allens (915 Bank St, Waterbury). F. Sean (of 100 Demons fame) and Chauncey Johnson (xo skellys) will both be DJing. Should be a fun time, just gotta design a poster to go along with it. Not sure if I will continue/fix up the poster I designed last year or just go for a whole new look.
