Kathryn Proulx is a multidisciplinary designer living in Fairfield, Connecticut. Currently my time is split between living and working in Connecticut and finishing my thesis work in Communication Design at Parsons School of Design in Manhattan.
Prior to now, I have been the design assistant at W Magazine, an award-winning fashion magazine published by Conde Nast, and the in-house designer and project manager for Art-Space, New Haven's premier contemporary art gallery.
Faux-beau.com is my avenue to share what I'm working on now, what inspires me, and to share my experience and advice to students who are interested in attending Parsons or art school in general.

How I Spent My Sunday Afternoon

film still from my faux Converse commercial

For my Communication Design 2 class with Julia Gorton (my favorite teacher at parsons so far but we’ll leave that story for another day) we each had to choose a quote and create a converse commercial. I picked a quote by activist and feminist; Betty Friedan:

“When she stopped conforming to the conventional picture of femininity she finally began to enjoy being a woman.”

-The Feminine Mystique, 1963

My man helped me film, my miniature schnauzer, Tucker, co-starred, and my dad was the set designer (he helped us nail the cotton sheets into the garage doorframe and kept it secure by tucking the bottoms underneath the garage door itself.)

Overall it recieved a pretty good response from the class, and from some friends after posting it on my myspace. I’d say it was a pretty successful final project.
