Christmas in August with Jason Santa Maria

August 12th, 2008 · No Comments

As I was lurking some inspiration for an upcoming art portfolio redesign I came across Jason Santa Maria, after poking around I realized this wasn’t the first time I had seen his work.  He designed the identity for Wordpress, Dictionary.com,  and A List Apart, among others.  It was his AIGA wrapping paper and his letterpressed business cards that caught my attention.  The business cards remind me of a similar technique I attempted in my recent silkscreened business cards, an over all print (well his is an oversize print of his name) divided among the cards.

But it’s the AIGA Wrapping Paper that I really love.  I am a sucker for black and white, type driven design.  (Maybe this is why I’m into publication design? Hmm.)  With that being said—the pattern definitely whets my appetite.  It’s made up of recipes for holiday food and drink; eggnog, fruit cake, pumpkin bread and the like.  All I can imagine is if it was printed on tissue paper and lined type-driven gift bags! OMG.  Yes please!
