I went down to the beach last night to take some pictures for a a project that me and my friend/classmate/creative counterpart Jill are working on. More on that soon!

I’m taking mostly all editorial-based electives this semester. For the past week I’ve been thinking about my direction for a mock magazine that I need to make for class. I realized more and more that I don’t read magazines to decide what I want to wear tomorrow, but to escape from the reality of today. I’ve decided on the name “Escapist” and here’s a short write up I did for my proposal:
An Escapist is someone looking for a departure from a mundane, ordinary life. As the name implies, Escapist is a dream-like and fantasy-inspired magazine. Each issue is a new journey into an alternate life. Escapist takes cues from the romantic movement in art history — reaching beyond the rational and escaping the confines of the suburban sprawl and industrialism. Harness the power of your imagination, envision a new life, and escape.
We haven’t been required to come up with a logo, or even a cover yet… but I felt inspired. I used some images from my inspiration folder that captured the feeling I’m going for, I don’t remember the source for any of them so I apologize if they’re yours. Placed the logo on top to make sure it works with different photos, and I’m fairly happy with the outcome! Can’t wait to get to work on taking photos, designing spreads, and writing content.

It’s been a long, relaxing winter break and come Monday it’s time to go back to Parsons. Unfortunately, during the break 2 of my most anticipated classes were canceled (one due to low enrollment and another due to… well… who knows.) I’ve spent the last few days stressing out, trying to put together some semblance of a schedule… still working on it, but I’m afraid there’s not much I can do without speaking to my advisor or a department chair. Many of my classmates recommended blogging about the process of trying to figure out my schedule in hopes to shed light on the biggest pitfall of attending Parsons—but I’m afraid it’s hard to put it into words without sounding like a huge complainer. Wish me luck!

My mom and I went through some more things and found some more great stuff! Click on the pictures to see them bigger and in more detail.
My late grandfather’s (navy) pilot wings and watch. My mom said he was very particular about wearing only “flat” watches… you can’t tell from this picture but the face of his watch is so thin!
My mom had a handful of these detailed golden bangles in her collection, she didn’t say much about them but I love these two in particular.
We found my Mom and Dad’s high school rings; they went to Cheshire High (in Connecticut) and North Kingstown High (in Rhode Island) respectively.
My mom had a ‘treasure chest’ (her words, not mine) with these keys in it. The cool old Preston key is to a trunk in the basement that is full of her clothes from the 60s and 70s… aka the holy grail of treasures. Unfortunately neither of us have been able to locate the trunk in the basement, I’m still holding onto hope that my dad didn’t get rid of it when our basement flooded a few years ago.
I found both of these lockets in the treasure chest, too. I love old lockets! The heart one has a lot of teeth marks on it which leads my mom to believe it’s actually belongs to her friend from when we lived in Tennessee who used to bite her locket out of nervous habit.
This ship necklace is my favorite! It’s no surprise as I love all things nautical. It was a gift to my mom when either She or my Dad (I can’t remember) won a trip to Cape Cod from work. So rad!
